In April, the Middletown school district issued a Request for Proposal for before and after school care programs run by the YMCA for the last 10 years. In response to a flurry of inquiries from current Y program participants in Middletown, we’d like to assure families that we hope to continue our valued partnership helping your children to learn, grow and thrive.
We’ve heard you’d like a voice in this week’s school board vote, and invite you to join the Y this Wed., June 19, 6:30p.m. at the Middletown BOE meeting at 63 Tindall Road, Middletown, NJ 07748 to share the positive impact the Y has had in your child’s life. Free child care will be provided starting at 6:15p.m at the Y’s Bayshore Family Success Center at 945 State Highway 36 Leonardo, NJ 07737.
Please read the comments below, which are a common sentiment of families in our before and after school programs who are reaching out to the Y. If you cannot join us at the board meeting please contact your school board member and let them know why you prefer the Y as your caring, community-centered partner in nurturing your child. Thank you for sharing this with other concerned parents.
“I believe strongly in our community and for me organizations like the Y are a major part of that. My daughter knows that the Y cares for others and that she is a Y kid, which makes her part of her community. She identifies other things that the Y does and we have talked about volunteering and helping others as she gets older. She has formed this part of her community conscience as a direct result of being a participant in the Y programs.” -Middletown Before/After School Parent
“It can be a challenge for working parents to figure out the best and most economical way to care for their children while working. The Y’s after care program was the perfect solution when my daughter was at River Plaza elementary. I ask to reconsider keeping this program in the Middletown district. The YMCA is a positive outreach program for our youth and our community.” -River Plaza Elementary Parent
“As working parents, this program is very important to us. YMCA have good programs, good staff, strong local presence, local offices, and good administration/oversight. Those are critical to us and to the school district.” -Middletown Before/After School Parent
“First, thank you for providing an aftercare program for our area, as it is much needed for working parents. I am writing this email to express my gratitude and appreciation for two of your hardworking and dedicated after care teachers, Ms. Gerri and Ms. Laurie. Children are WELL supervised with consideration to safety and the children’s needs within a warm and comfortable environment. Their compassion and dedication to their job is demonstrated every day when they speak to the children, greet the parents and all tasks that involve the children’s best interests. As a parent and educator I truly believe that communication is an essential to a positive learning environment for children. Laurie and Gerrie do an excellent job of communicating with the parents any necessary information and also sharing that information with the children when needed.
