Shrewsbury, NJ – In the spirit of an old-fashioned barn raising, friends and supporters of The Community YMCA will gather at Stillwell Stables in Colts Neck on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 to raise support for the nonprofit’s charitable mission.
Long-time YMCA Foundation Board Trustee Benedict J. Torcivia, Jr., Co-President of Torcon, Inc., will be honored at the Y Cares Annual Benefit with the Distinguished Citizen Service Award for his outstanding community service.
“The Community YMCA’s Annual Benefit reflects the great American tradition of a barn raising, when a community comes together to help a neighbor,” said Rhonda Anderson, President and CEO of The Community YMCA. “We’re inviting our community to join us in raising funds that will enable children and families in need to experience life-changing Y programs.”
Proceeds from the event will benefit The Community YMCA’s YCares financial assistance program for kids and families in need of free and reduced membership and program fees, as well as community initiatives such as water safety for at-risk youth and childhood obesity prevention.
Anderson said the Y is proud to honor Torcivia, “who has been instrumental in helping to build The Community YMCA’s Endowment Fund to support our mission to serve all and the future of our Y.”
Torcivia and his brother Joe oversee operations at Torcon, a 50-year construction management and general contracting company with headquarters in Red Bank. In addition to serving on the Y’s Foundation Board, Torcivia is a member of the Riverview Medical Center Foundation Board of Trustees and the Rumson Zoning Board. He has been an active leader in the New Jersey construction industry, serving as President of the Board of the Building Contractors Association of New Jersey. He is current Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Associated Construction Contractors of New Jersey. Last year, both Ben and Joe Torcivia were honored by Monmouth University with its Distinguished Business Leaders Award.
The Annual Benefit is being planned by a committee of volunteers and Y staff, led by co-chairpersons Mary Larkin, Colts Neck; Carol Stillwell, Holmdel; and McKenna Torcivia, Rumson. Hosted by Stillwell at the Stillwell Stables, the event will feature entertainment by The Haven, a Jersey Shore-based rock band that delivers a diverse blend of classic and contemporary rock favorites and originals. Guests will enjoy barbecue cuisine, cocktails, a gift auction and dancing.
Individual tickets, sponsorships and digital ads in the virtual event journal are available by calling the Y at 732.671.5505, ext. 110 or visiting www.TheCommunityYMCA.org/benefit.
