Shrewsbury, NJ (May 5, 2017) – The Community YMCA is pleased to announce that it will be serving the Oceanport community this summer at the Oceanport Swim Club located at Blackberry Bay Park on Port Au Peck Avenue. The Oceanport Borough Council voted unanimously on Thursday, April 20, to award a contract to the Y to manage the swim club.
“As a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening communities, we are excited to help bring families and individuals together to enjoy the many benefits of the community swim club,” said President and CEO Rhonda Anderson.
Under the contract, the Y will manage the pool facility and concessions, hire staff and sell memberships, offer group and private swim lessons for all ages and skills levels, as well teach lifeguard certification classes.
“The Community YMCA looks forward to bringing our aquatics management and program experience to the Oceanport community,” said Barry Martin, Vice President of Health, Wellness and Camping for The Community YMCA. Martin noted that the Y currently operates seven guarded bodies of water including two indoor pools and whirlpool spa at its Family Health & Wellness Center in Red Bank and three indoor/outdoor pools and a lake at Camp Zehnder in Wall Township. The Y also operates concessions at Camp Zehnder.
The pool club is planned to open for the summer season on Saturday, May 27. Registration for pool membership is available online at www.TheCommunityYMCA.org. Priority will be given to Oceanport residents until May 15. After that, membership will be open to residents in municipalities that share services with Oceanport: Eatontown, Long Branch, Monmouth Beach, Sea Bright, Shrewsbury and West Long Branch.
The Y has been providing families in Monmouth County a wide of variety of life-changing programs since its founding in Red Bank in 1874. In addition to health and wellness programs, The Community YMCA provides before and afterschool care, family and individual therapeutic counseling, preschool, summer camp and teen leadership programs.
