American Red Cross Certifications include Lifeguard recertification, CPR and AED, Oxygen and First Aid.


Ages: 15 and up

Through videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you’ll learn team work, rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid and CPR/AED and other skills you need to work as a professional lifeguard. You will receive a two-year First Aid and CPR/AED certification as well as a two-year Lifeguarding certification. Course includes resuscitation mask ONLY.

A student manual can be downloaded online at, or it can be purchased at the Y for an additional fee while supplies last. Participants must pass the lifeguard pretest before signing up for available lifeguard training courses.


There will be a required Pre-Test. After the Pre-Test is passed, you may register for a full course:

Class attendance is mandatory on all scheduled dates. There are no make-ups.

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Re-Certification/Update is for current lifeguards to get re-certified in American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding, CPR/AED and First Aid. For successful completion of the course, students must attend all scheduled classes, participate in all skill scenarios, demonstrate competency in all required skills and scenarios and pass the pre-test skills, all emergency in and out of water scenarios and final written exam with a minimum grade of 80 percent.

This course provides individuals with knowledge and skills necessary to provide first aid to a victim who might have muscle or bone injuries, cuts, burns, environmental injuries and allergies. Participants will watch a video and practice bandaging one another. Great training for babysitters or active families who may have to handle emergency situations. Participants who wish to be certified will be required to pass a written exam with a minimum score of 80 percent and pass the emergency skill scenarios. Participants who don’t need to be certified will walk away feeling comfortable with the skills they learned to make a difference.
