The Community YMCA’s Global Teens Program offers local teens a transformative summer travel experience in Lima and Machu Picchu, Peru.

Students ages 13 -17 will experience new perspectives through local culture, language and lifestyle. Participants will spend their time in Peru working collaboratively with local teens on a variety of service projects that will help build and restore infrastructure within Lima and neighboring communities.

Travel to Peru & Give Back to a Global Community with the Y’s Global Teens

Students will help make real changes in the communities that we serve while working hard and learning from local leaders and teens about the difference facets of need existing within their communities. They will also have the opportunity to explore the world famous UNESCO heritage site Machu Picchu.

Participants will be required to attend monthly preparatory meetings prior to going on the trip to familiarize themselves with issues related to service, international travel, cultural awareness, Peruvian customs, and more.

Travel Itinerary:

Day 1:
Settle in as you arrive in Lima, Peru.
Attend an orientation meeting with local
leaders and students.
Day 2:
Visit catacombs and do a service project at a
local orphanage, spend the evening at a
merengue/salsa lesson.
Day 3:
Visit Kennedy Park and attend a local sightseeing
tour in the morning. Return to the orphanage to
continue your service project in the afternoon. In the evening, attend a traditional Peruvian box drum lesson.
Days 4-6:
Construction project at a local non-profit.
Merengue/salsa lessons in the evening
Day 7:
Orphanage visit
Day 8:
Free time/shopping
Days 9-10:
Visit Pueblo Libre; participate in service project.
Days 11-13:
Fly to Cusco; travel to Machu Picchu
Day 14:
Flight from Cusco to Lima; transfer flights
and return home.
