YMCA Annual Essay Contest & Educational Scholarship

Deadline: Dec. 20, 2018 at 5 p.m. | Download Application

As part of this special occasion, we invite high school students who are currently YMCA members or program participants to enter our student essay contest on the following theme:

America is facing a social crisis. If Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. were alive today, in your own words, what do you think he would do to bring people together?

Two essays will be selected as grand prize winners and will receive a $500 scholarship for their education, generously donated by Hackensack Meridian Health and New Jersey Natural Gas, as well as a full-year youth membership to The Community YMCA or YMCA of Western Monmouth County. Winners of the student essay contest will read their winning essays at our commemorative breakfast.

Please Support Our Community Service Project

We will be collecting donations of children’s books at this event for our giving partner Bridge of Books Foundation which provides an ongoing source of books to underserved children throughout NJ to support the development of literacy and love of reading.

Book donations may also be delivered to the Red Bank Family YMCA, Camp Zehnder in Wall, Children’s Achievement Center in Matawan and the Y’s Administration Office in Shrewsbury.  Learn more.
